| Is 500 / 1000 kms within my reach |
All it takes is an average of plus minus 5/10kms per week in road races between the 25th of May 2009 and 30 May 2010
. Wait until January and it will quite obviously take more
time on the road - so why not enter early and keep chiseling away at a few races in the
earlier months to maintain fitness and keep accumulating the k's. |

| Who Was Johnny Kambouris |
Johnny Kambouris was born in Athens on 2 September 1945 and emigrated to Witbank in 1946.
He moved to Benoni at the age of 21, completed his CIS Diploma and progressed to the position
of Financial Director, working in the field of Civil Engineering and Construction. Johnny married
Jenny in 1969 and had 3 children, Carin, Paul-John and David. Johnny was loved and respected
by his family due to his positive attitude towards life, strong discipline and his desire to do his
best in everything.
Johnny loved his sport and joined Boksburg Athletic Club in 1978. He ran 3 Comrades in
Boksburg colours, one with Hillcrest Villagers during a short spell in Natal and then moved to
Benoni Harriers where he completed another 5, as well as the grueling Iron Man competition
Johnny Kambouris died tragically in a motor car accident on the 31st December 1989, before he
could achieve his 10th Comrades. A lifelong dream was realised when Jenny completed the
10th run for Johnny and herself in June 2001. May Johnny rest in peace knowing that his dearest
wish has been achieved and that '6499' truly belongs in the family.
Jenny and Paul Selby (who were married in December 1996) remain committed to the 1000km
Challenge and long may it prosper in order to bring honour to the many athletes, who are the
most fervent lovers of our sport by competing and challenging themselves regularly, at road
races throughout the country
